The Category Search is designed to help you find items based on concepts or ideas.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òInvoke Category Search by clicking on the Search icon in the tool bar and select "Category."
<\Break><\Indent 20> òA single box appears at the top along with a list, to the right, of top level categories.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òClick once on any item from that list to begin defining your search.<\Break>
E.g. to find images of cats, you would click on "Depiction."
<\Break><\Indent 20> òA new box appears along with another set of terms on the right.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òThe first item on the list is in this example is "Animals."
<\Break><\Indent 20> òIf you click on "Animals," another box will appear, and a new list will appear with different kinds of animals listed. You can now select "Cats".
<\Break><\Indent 20> òIf you want to change your mind, just click any of
the boxes you've already filled, and the selection process will begin again from that level. <\Break><\Indent 20> òOnce you have selected the categories you want, you can select a target to search on.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òThe default is "Whole Disc"ùall the books in the library, all artworks, and all artists.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òYou can also choose any of the items to limit your search to artworks only, or to a single book.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òTo perform a search, click on the "Perform the search button."
<\Break><\Indent 20> òA progress bar will help you to estimate the time your search will take.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òTo cancel a search in progress, hit the <esc> key (Windows) or press the ≡ and . (period) keys simultaneously (Macintosh).
<\Break><\Indent 20> òWhen the search is complete, if items have been found, you will automatically be switched to the "Results" view.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òIf there are no results, you will hear two "error" sounds.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òTo further refine a previous search, select "Previous results" from the target list for the new search.<\Break>
E.g., if you have already performed a search on "Depiction -- Animals -- Cats" and you want only the ones which are bronze sculptures, return to Category search and choose "Medium -- Sculpture -- Metal -- Bronze" and choose "Previous results" from the target list.
<\Break><\Indent 20> òTo add the results of any search to a previous search, click on the toggle button "Add to Search Results" before selecting "Perform the Search"<\Break>
E.g. If you want to add lions to your previous search for cats, you could select "Depiction -- Animals -- Wild Animals -- Lions" and then click on "Add to Search Results."
<\Break><\Indent 20> òThe results of this new search will be added to those already gathered.<\Break><\Break>
